The Crypto Report

The top five crypto coins were all in the red with EOS seeing the largest decline falling nearly 4% to US$10.82. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) saw the smallest losses, dropping around 1% to US$6,551.42.

Grammy-award winner Imogen Heap has thrown her hat into the crypto ring. Heap is working on a blockchain project named Mycelia that will allow artists to store information about their music and track payments using the technology, according to a Business Insider report

"There are many ways to do it. But for me, it's important to be in this space because it's a growing space and the music industry has to move with the times and I just want to make sure that we're here and prepared — the music-makers are prepared," said Heap in the interview.

In 2015, Heap released a song titled "Tiny Human" on the Ethereum blockchain. Fans could trade in cryptocurrency for a download of the song.

() has been granted a patent to develop a crypto-powered electric grid, according to a Coin Telegraph report. The blockchain-based system will connect a network of energy-consuming devices and each device will be allotted a certain amount of crypto to exchange for energy from a utility company.

The retail giant has applied for other blockchain-related patents, including a service to track customer's purchases in a ledger and a "Smart Package" patent to track packages.

The Cann Report

Canadian cannabis companies have signed deals for nearly US$671mln in just the first two weeks of June, according to a Marijuana Business Daily study

While the big players signed six-figure deals, smaller companies also fared well.

Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd () raised C$25mln in a stock deal while Beleave Inc (CSE:BE) raised C$5mln in a private placement.

Illinois lawmakers are battling opioid addiction through medical marijuana. Officials passed The Alternative to Opiods Act that would make patients with an opioid prescription eligible for the medicinal cannabis program, according to an NPR report.

"As we see the horrible damage inflicted by opioid use and misuse, it seems like a very low-cost and low-risk alternative," said the sponsor, state Sen. Don Harmon (D-IL).

In 2017, more than 2 million state residents were prescribed opioids while the state's medical cannabis program has distributed licenses to around 38,000 people.

While the bill passed, it still needs the signature of Republican Governor Bruce Rauner. While the bill has bipartisan support, the governor has a history of opposition to medical marijuana.
