More N.J. medical marijuana patients can now get home delivery

1 minute reading time (233 words)

A dozen years after the medical marijuana law was signed in New Jersey, registered patients no longer pay sales tax on their medicine, and a growing number of people live in communities where home delivery service is available.

The sales tax on medical cannabis sales ended July 1, as part of a law Gov. Phil Murphy signed three years ago that gradually phased out the added expense — just as added tax revenue from the recreational market was expected to flow. Sales to 21-and-older customers began on April 21 from 12 alternative treatment centers, another name for New Jersey’s dispensaries. By next week it will be available from 17 retailers.

On Tuesday, the south Jersey dispensary, The Botanist, began making deliveries twice a week to patients in Atlantic, Cape May and portions of Ocean County, its parent company Acreage Holdings announced. Deliveries will be made on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, according to the announcement.

Zen Leaf in Neptune began home delivery for its patients in select communities Monmouth County in April. The company has since expanded delivery to 72 zip codes surrounding its other dispensaries in Elizabeth and Lawrence Township, according to Joshua Kudisch, East Retail Director at Verano.
